Conversation with Hannah about The Embodied Voice

It must be coming up on two years ago, I was asked by voice teacher Hannah Marie Gatt to write something for her website about The Embodied Voice. It was taking me for ever to actually respond to her questions in writing, so instead we arranged to meet up and do an interview in person. A friend who I know from SKRONK had also been interested in interviewing me about my practice as an improviser, so I thought let’s combine them! The result is this little video series where Hannah and I discuss all things voice and Embodied Voice. I hope you enjoy and learn a little more about my philosophy, approach, and personal experience!

I. "Analyst in the brain" – The Embodied Voice in Conversation

"The analyst in the brain" – an excerpt from "Kate Smith and Hannah Marie Gatt in Conversation". Back in October 2018, two voice practitioners met to discuss the origin and ideas behind The Embodied Voice, Kate Smith's project combining voice and movement. What resulted was a long conversation about all things voice. In this excerpt, they discuss the difficulty of accessing the right brain and letting go of the judging mind. Tune in to catch more excerpts in the following weeks! Hannah Marie Gatt (www.SingwithHannah.com), voice teacher, coach and blogger, is writing a book about singing and teaching voice. Kate Smith (www.KateSmithMusic.com) is a multi-genre vocalist, entrepreneur, and leader of The Embodied Voice workshops. Filming was done by John Murphy, dedicated documenter of musicians, street bands, pub bands and more. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGZnNgT5RCQDs7mjSjGHodQ/featured?disable_polymer=1)
