“Forest Church” performed at Isodea Festival

I have officially had my first composition for voice & movement performed in Portugal as part of the Isodea Festival. Created specially for this festival and for the Barreiro Chapel where it was performed, the piece uses voices moving throughout space to take the listener on a journey from the church-bound religious voice, to an unconfined wild and deeply embodied voice of the forest. The whole piece, lasting about 45 minutes, and composed for five voices and synth, created an immersive and surprising environment in which the audience was enveloped in sound.

I’m incredibly happy with the results, although - of course - I also see I only as a beginning. I was pleased that people seemed to understand what I was trying to convey through the piece, as well as by how deeply they were touched. One audience member declared to me that it was “the best music performance they’d seen in years”.

Hopefully we will be releasing a video of the whole performance online, and I sincerely hope that I can use this as a base to further develop the piece.

A big thank you to Isodea Festival for inviting me and trusting me with my crazy ideas! Thank you to all my fellow artists and musicians who performed that day - it was a pleasure to share the day with such a lovely group of kind and talented individuals! And lastly, thank you to my collaborators, with whom none of it would have been possible. Your hard work paid off and we made something beautiful, thank you!
