Part 1
Circular Vozes directed by Aixa Figini
CIRCULAR is an experimental vocal improvisation ensemble formed by seven singers from different countries including Portugal, Argentina, Brasil and Italy, bringing together diverse influences and distinct musical backgrounds.
They will perform several completely improvised pieces.
Lullabies, Triptych by Kate Smith
Each movement of Lullabies is built on varying rhythmic interpretations of a simple rocking movement. The melodies and harmonic structures are often hocketed - meaning broken up and distributed - across multiple voices.
Seeds by Kate Smith
Seeds offers a poetic epic on the life cycle of a plant, from germination through to dispersal. The three “seeds” voices are accompanied by two “bells” voices which mark the passage of time, and the larger cycles of nature.
Something to Say by Filipe Sousa & the ensemble
Something to Say was created through a collective devising process led by Filipe Sousa.

Forest Church by Kate Smith,

Forest Church was originally commissioned by Isodea Festival and performed at the chapel at Convento Madre Deus de Verderena, Barreiro in May 2021. The piece invites the re-wilding of the voice in nature and body, as it transitions from the familiar Western classical/religious context to an immersive environment in which the voice moves the body through the space, and onto the plains and jungles.

Songs from the Body is a collection of songs created by Kate Smith that are inspired from movements of the body. As the creator of The Embodied Voice, Kate’s passion is to create music, and facilitate collective music making, for voices and bodies in motion. She will be releasing Seeds and Lullabies, Triptych in 2023 as part of her first EP, released by Lalala Records and produced by David Ridley.

Singer, songwriter and producer from Argentina. Aixa gets inspiration in the dialogue between musical languages, rhythms and melodies from around the world. Based in Lisbon where she develops several artistic projects that go from her solo work, her vocal ensemble CIRCULAR, to her regular workshops on group vocal improvisation.

Singer and flutist originally from Turin (Italy), I have been living in Lisbon for six years. Here i perform with the trio Faya and the real-time improvisation group Circular. Since 2018 I have been part of Mosaico, a multidisciplinary research, performance and didactic for the young audience.

Lioba Grunow
Lioba Grunow is an international singer, actress and performance coach. Her career has brought her to study and work on three different continents, including finishing New York Film Academy’s conservatory program in Musical Theater. She speaks multiple languages and is based in Lisbon.
