Kate Smith is a multi-faceted artist and vocalist based between London and Lisbon. Building on a vibrant career as a performer in diverse genres from opera to vocal improvisation with performances at King’s Place, Bristol Old Vic and The National Theatre Studio, Kate is now releasing her first solo EP, Songs from the Body. Inspired by the rhythm, geometry, and energy of nature and the body, these unique pieces integrate voice and movement, bringing space, voice, performer and audience into new and surprising relationships.

Leaping between singers, shifting throughout the space, the music establishes a spatial-sonic environment where voice dances between song and landscape. Toeing the line between music, dance, and theatre, the songs evoke the work of Meredith Monk, meets Bobby McFerrin, with shades of Bjork.

Songs from the Body the EP emerged as a lock-down project in 2020. Unable to work with live singers and audiences, Kate began recording her songs with her own voice. Working with producer David Ridley on electronics and production, the two transformed the pieces into an immersive sonic world that is strange, evocative, and hypnotic.

Three years later, it is therefore doubly exciting to offer this live performance alongside the release of the EP, each a treat to be experienced in their own right.
